The Madison Morgan Cultural Center is pleased to present Madison National 2008, our third annual national juried show. This year's show features 27 artists from 11 states. Our juror, Sylvie Fortin, selected these works from over 450 entries.
Sylvie Fortin, Editor-in-chief of Art Papers, is an independent curator, art historian, critic and editor who has worked internationally since 1991. She was curator of Contemporary Art at the Ottawa Art Gallery (Ottawa, Ontario, 1996-2001), Program Coordinator at la chambre blanche (Quebeck City, Quebec, 1991-1994), and a long-ter collaborator with OBORO (Montreal, Quebec, 1994-2001). Her critical essays have been published in Canadian, American and European catalogues, and her reviews have appeared in many periodicals including Art Press, C Magazine, Espace, Fuse, NKA: Journal of Contemporary African art and Parachute. She has also received numerous significant grants and awards as a critic and curator, as well as for her academic research.
Fortin studied Art History at the University of Toronto and at Université Laval. She is currently completing doctoral studies in Art History at Duke University, where her work explores the convergence of contemporary art and curatorial practices, with a focus on the chronotopic dimention of moving-image installation.
